Frequently asked
What file formats does Dotsmith support?
Import: .aseprite/.ase, PNG (as a new project), GIF (as an animation), and .pixelproj. Export: PNG (1× and 8×), animated GIF, MP4, sprite sheets, .aseprite, Tiled .tmx/.tsx, and Godot TileSet .tres. Palettes import from Lospec .hex and GIMP .gpl files.
Where are my projects stored?
On your device, in Dotsmith's documents folder. They're covered by your normal iCloud or local device backup. Nothing is stored on our servers — there are none.
How does the Terrain Brush work?
In Tilemap mode, tap Terrain to generate an autotile set from your current frame (your current color becomes the border). Then paint with the mountain tool: edge and corner tiles are chosen automatically as the shape grows. The fill droplet floods a whole region.
How do undo gestures work?
Tap the canvas with two fingers to undo, three fingers to redo. The toolbar arrows do the same. Dotsmith keeps 60 undo steps covering pixels, layers, frames, palettes, and tilemaps.
Apple Pencil isn't drawing / my palm is drawing.
Check the Edit menu (⋯) for “Finger Pans, Pencil Draws.” When it's on, only the Pencil paints and fingers navigate — this switches on automatically the first time a Pencil touch is detected.
Found a bug?
Email us with the steps you took, what you expected, and what happened instead. If the project file matters, attach the .pixelproj export — it contains only your artwork.
